West Yorkshire healthcare furniture and equipment manufacturer James Spencer & Co has been announced as the top-rated platinum medal winner in the Infection Prevention and Control category at the prestigious Nursing Times Product Awards.
The awards recognise and reward the products that are transforming patient care and helping healthcare professionals work efficiently. James Spencer & Co clinched the supreme accolade for its Stalham infection control mobile sani/shower chair.
Clinical and industry experts who made up the judging panel commented: “This product has the potential to make a huge impact on patient care, due to ease of cleaning and the ability to swap individual parts - and it is recyclable at end of product life. It could be used across the whole spectrum of care delivery.”
Richard Spencer, chairman of the Bradford-based firm, said: “Such high profile recognition from the nursing sector could hardly be more fitting, as we developed the Stalham through direct consultation and feedback from healthcare professionals, infection control nurses among them.
“The multi-functional Stalham was purposely designed to reduce areas in which bacteria can be harboured and can also be easily and quickly stripped down for thorough cleaning and disinfection.
“It has been well received across the NHS because of its inbuilt capabilities in helping to combat cross-infection. This latest accolade can only help enhance the Stalham’s reputation as a powerful tool in the fight against healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs).”
The best products in nursing were celebrated at an awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, with James Spencer & Co’s award presented to national accounts manager Dill Butt.
The event was hosted by Nursing Times editor Jenni Middleton, who said: “Innovation and practicality are both fundamental attributes for the devices and products that nurses use on a daily basis.
“High quality products enable nurses to work more effectively in a clinical environment and are essential for improving patient safety and assisting in daily care, observation and treatment.
She told winners and shortlisted entrants: “We’ve been bowled over by witnessing this huge array of absolutely outstanding products. Some of them are incredible feats of engineering or demonstrations of phenomenal clinical know-how, and some of them are brilliantly genius in their simplicity and ability to change lives.
“But in all of them, you have solved problems and made life so much better and easier, and more dignified – not only for patients, but also for nurses to deliver the very best care.”
